Rosebank was approved by the previous government in 2023, but it is currently undeveloped. Groups like Parents for Future are trying to keep it that way for all kids everywhere.

Rosebank is bad for the climate

Rosebank will produce more annual greenhouse gas emissions than the poorest 28 countries globally.

It would push the UK past it’s climate targets and contribute towards an unliveable planet. The burning of oil and gas increases global temperatures, impacts air pollution and our children’s health.

The UN and climate scientists agree – if we want a liveable climate, we can’t allow any new oil and gas.

Rosebank is bad for the UK’s energy security

Rosebank would cost the UK public over £750 million but the oil and gas giant Equinor it’s operator and majority-owned by the Norwegian government – will take the profits.

Generous tax breaks mean the UK public would shoulder 80%+ of the costs – and most of the risk – from developing Rosebank.

This project will do nothing to lower our UK energy bills because the oil and gas extracted from Rosebank if developed, would be exported to other countries.

In early 2025, campaigning groups won a court case ruling that Rosebank was unlawful because it did not consider the emissions created from burning the field’s oil and gas.

The UK Government now has the chance to make its final decision – to reject or approve Rosebank. We must now make sure they make the right decision and reject Rosebank.

WHAT WE'VE DONE SO FAR:

  • Organised a family lobby in Parliament where parents called on MPs to stop new oil and gas, including Rosebank
  • Supported our local groups and parents  to ask MPs to sign the #StopRosebank pledge
  • Distributed information about Rosebank and supported creative non-disruptive protests aimed at the UK government, the Norwegian Embassy and Equinor
  • Worked in partnership with other climate groups, unions, faith groups, comedians and more to come together and show a united front against Rosebank
